Vegetable Plants at Campbell Road Nursery

Ralph Whisnant(z7b-8 NC)February 27, 2009

Campbell Road Nursery on Tryon Road in Raleigh is growing some very colorful leaf Lettuce, Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, etc. plants this winter. These are their own started from seed plants and they look very healthy. They have some for sale outside, but the best looking plants are still in the greenhouse. Blaine told me that the greenhouse is allowed to get down to 40 degrees at night, so these plants can go directly into the ground provided that you can cover them during extreme weather (like the 17 F they are predicting for next Tuesday morning). If you are not prepared to cover these plants, do not plant them for another couple of weeks when the coldest weather will be past (I hope).

If you need direction to Campbell Road Nursery, let me know.

Hopefully, they stayed in the greenhouse this past week.

I had never been there before until this week. I saw the nice vegetables you posted about. They had all kinds of neat plants and the staff was just as friendly and helpful as can be. I like shopping places where people actually say the words "thank you for shopping with us".

They had a big poster board with photos and a list of plants that will be available for spring. Lots of goodies and lots of Lantana's. YAY! They also had a very nice selection of pansies that aren't all big and flopping over like most this time in the season. They appear to be very young and robust. I needed to fill in, as some of mine just didn't make the cut. Here is a pic of one I've never seen before, but was instantly attracted to and had to have - 'Dynamite Strawberry':

I will definitely be going back to see them! I'm not affiliated, just impressed. Arboretum members get a discount too!
