ID for smelly plant

hanzrobo(11)June 17, 2011

Smells like a skunk. The leaves are thick, not as thick as Plectranthus amboinicus 'cuban oregano', but definitely succulent. It leaves a light, sticky residue on your fingers. The flower is, well, see for yourself.

That's a Plectranthus I think. I have them in the garden as a groundcover.

Thank you Norma. Your knowledge and insight has been a tremendous gift to the C&S community, including myself. Double thanks.
Rian, haha, I didn't even think to search for other types of Plectranthus. It's Plectranthus neochilus - 'Lobster Flower'. Deer resistant and possible snake repellent? Cool, so... when we move out to a ranch, I'll have my ground cover. Sweet.
They grow it not too far from here.

Something about those flowers always reminds me of lavender. I have to keep an eye on mine - they grow pretty "strongly" - do not want to aggressive - but I find them easy to keep in check.
