Vine suggestions

savoiu(9A (San Jose))October 16, 2013

Hi, I want to build a trellis (probably T-type) along a fence to provide some privacy. So it will be about 2 ft taller than the fence (thus ~8ft high).

Do you have any suggestion for vines/etc to grow on it? I would like (in order of decreasing priority)

  1. evergreen
  2. nice looking/smelling flowers
  3. good fruits/berries

Anything that comes to mind that will thrive in San Jose, CA?

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick, it sounds like you have the ideal site to grow Clematis 'Armandii' It is evergreen, flowers profusely, is very fragrant, amazingly easy to grow, will even self seed occasionally. Al
