What should I do with my Nepenthes Pitcher plant?

mcgyvr2009i(Schenectady, NY 5b)September 8, 2012

I have accidentally destroyed one of the pitchers on my pitcher plant. I went outside to feed it bugs and one of the traps accidentally got caught on my garden fence and that pitcher ripped and all the juice and bug remnants fell out. Should I just cut off that trap, or should I wait until it dries up and dies? Thanks.

You can do either one. You DO NOT have to feed the plant. They get most of their food from the Sun. They'll catch some bugs on their own but if not it's NO problem.

So they're pretty tough plants right?

Well what do you mean by "tough"? They're fairly easy to grow. Just keep the soil moist at all times, NOT waterlogged like Flytraps or sarracenias. In the spring use 1/4 strength orchid food every 2 weeks to initiate pitchering.
