When to plant potatoes?

dalton73(z7NC)March 15, 2008

I want to plant potatoes for the first time this year. I'm confused about the planting times for potatoes because I am getting conflicting information from several sources. Can anyone from my area give me some advice. I'm in zone 7, about 45 minutes north of Greensboro. I've checked the forums and can't find any info on this.

I am 5o miles west of Charlotte and I try to plant my potatoes around Mar 1, and I have planted as early as early February. If it frosts after the vegetation breaks through the ground, the vegetation will die back, but so far as I know it has always regrown with no real setback. Last year frost threatened after I had about 6 inch plants, and most of the vegetation was not hurt.
