Clematis question for metal fence

oldpatct(6)March 28, 2012

Hi All

I have a metal fence (not chain link) as you can see in the attached photo and would love to grow clematis on the fence but concerned the clematis will not be able to climb this metal fence. A photo of the fence is below. The individual metal posts measure .75 inches on each side so the entire circumference is 3 inches. IF clematis wont climb this type of fence without assistance, what type of assistance is best/

Appreciate any thoughts and ideas in advance

They will need assistance, something thinner that they can wrap their around. Netting or wire.

I think we are going to go the netting route
