I found this site while browsing this morning and it explains a lot:
Redbeard, thank you! I'm a relative newbie with clivias and the terminology definitions are scarce and often confusing. I have a few seedlings from China, also about 20 offspring from my Home Depot specimen. I got inspired last spring and pollinated its 2 blooms with a q-tip. All but 3 seeds from both have grown. Will find homes for most of the HD seedlings, now that I've become aware of how large the plants will become..... I have a couple of Painted Face, one variegated, 3 yellow, all from Chinese seeds. I live in Northern Michigan and the plants can take over the house in the long winter....
Hi Redbeard, you sent me some clivia seeds and amerylis, wanted to thank you and update you. The Amerylis(sp), have sptouted after soaking for 2 weeks (cut little babies now), and the clivia have sprouted and are very slowley growing! THANKS AND MORE THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
