suggestions for ceanothus, tibouchina, more?

xanthoria(9)February 17, 2009

I have a garden with no irrigation in San Francisco. The areas I need to place plants in is mostly full sun, and the ground is rocky clay, heavily mulched.

I need smallish perennials to go under/around the following (and so may get some shade):

tibouchina (silver princess plant)

standard rose that will get watered

amaryllis belladonna (shady area)

thanks for any suggestions :)

Under my princess plant I have large groupings of Agapanthus (Lily of the Nile) in blue and white. Once they are established they are pretty drought tolerant. They are also low maintanance. Another idea would be Sweet Pea Shrubs.(Polygala x dalmaisiana) So gorgeous and 1 of my favorites. It is from South Africa.
If you want smaller plants you can get dwarf agapanthus and small sweet pea shrubs (called Petite Butterflies)
Hope this helps!
