Plant Morning Glory near Clematis or not?

njmomma(z6 NJ)April 28, 2010

The Morning Glory is an annual, but they tend to self seed and reappear the next year. Will they smother the new Clematis I'm planting?

Also, I'm getting an arched arbor for the clematis but can I plant clematis on one side of the arbor and morning glory on the other or is this a bad idea?

thanks,

Natanya

I think its a bad idea to have a morning glory anywhere near a clematis. It will smother the clematis.

Hmmm, now I'll have to find a new place to put the Morning Glory.

Its spring clean up. Imagine yourself trying to figure out which of the dried stems, leafless, tangled together, is the Clem you need to save, and which is the dead morning glory that has to be cut down. Even if you can tell, its all tangled up in one unholy mess.
