Garlic, onions and cucumbers?

frdnicholas(Albuquerque NM)April 6, 2006

This year I am planning on growing cucumbers where I had tomatoes last year. The garlic and onions I planted last year in this bed are coming up and have doubled. Is that ok for cucumbers? I've looked for companions to cucumbers, but haven't seen anything. Thanks for your help.

Cucumbers should be fine with onions. Onions don't work well with peas or beans,

Great! My garlic and chives are also returning, so there'll be a lot of strong smelling companions. I also spread the basil seed in that bed at the end of the season, so the cucumbers might also have some basil near them.

Sounds like the start of a great recipe for cucumber salad!

Now if I could only find some cucumber plants! I've been checking Walmart, Kmart and Home Depot, and just haven't seen them yet. Maybe they are more hot weather vegetables than I thought.
