Help Please -- cucumbers and potatoes ?

jollyrd(Richmond VA)July 24, 2008

I have four cucumber plants given to me by a colleage since I was late to plant while preparing a raised bed at the new property. They are doing wonderful -- large tasty cucumbers, and more to come. Now since my bed is still mostly empty, I decided to throw in potatoes - just cut store bought potatoes that got eyes and put under lots of dry leaves, -- next to the cucumbers. I just started reading companion planting book yesterday and four pages down I find out the two should never be planted next to each other. But other websites talk about them being good companions. Should I move the potatoes? which I can, I don't think potatoes started to grow yet, just don't want to panick and do extra work if I don't have to. Thank you

Cucumbers and potatoes are considered antagonistic in the companion planting world, which means they shouldn't be planted near one another. They won't do well. Good luck!
