Can you identify this Clematis

oakleyokMay 4, 2010

I bought two of these this morning but the label only said "Clematis." I'd like to find out the type of Clematis though.

Also, do I really need to prune it back for the root system? The plants are about a foot tall and vining like crazy.

Could be Ramona.

I learned the hard way to always prune back but others do not and are happy with their results so you must do what you feel it right for you and your garden.

Thanks Buy! I went out to check to see how many stems are coming up, and each one has about six, so I'm not going to prune it. I'm surprised at the good condition it's in.

I'm pretty sure it's a Ramona which means it's not going to be blooming much longer. I wish I had known that when I bought it! So now I won't be putting it in my flowerbed after all. Darn.

My Ramona only blooms once a year. I have other Clematis that bloom much longer than Ramona. Juuli, Petite Faucon, Daniel Deronda off the top of my head.

Well shucks. That settles it. I'm going to plant them in a large pot with a bamboo trellis.

I'm very upset at my local greenhouse, this year they aren't labeling their plants, just telling us what they are.

Maybe I'll luck out and they'll bloom all summer? :)

I had a Ramona a few years back that didn't bloom until early November, and it was still in the gallon pot I bought it in. It was supposed to be Bee's Jubilee, but was mislabeled.

Was nice to see some flowers at that late date.
