Pinus ponderosa Photo Gallery 2012

A wonderful conifer native to western North America.

The species can often be identified by its long needles that appear in fascicles of two or three. The bark on older specimens has thick cinnamon colored plates. A gorgeous plant!

Love Pinus ponderosas! Here is a dwarf called 'Tasha'. When conifer geeks come visit my garden this is one of their favorites, despite her unassuming look.

Nate,
we have a nice collection of ponderosas in the Jerry Morris Life Monument 2.0 till 2011. I think it is known for all.

Some fresh photos from 2012 summer.

This beauty is stanging in the Simanek Gardens. I tried to make a green photo, but despite all, its a silvery wonder.

Some new shots at Franz

About 10 years old grafts. I guess they will be giant brooms by time.

I just got a 'Sphinx' in a 4" pot, so now I have to sweat it out, making sure that I keep it alive...even thrives until it is big enough to go into the ground. It is adorable - the needles are almost as long as the stem. A real Dr. Seuss plant, at least right now! Even Barbara's has a 'creature' look about it.

Hey, Nate.
What is the story behind 'Sugarite'?
I have never heard of this cultivar!
Thanks.

Thanks Simoni! Although it looks like the pic might not show up?

Sam, I saw that tree in New Mexico last year. The needles have a twist which gave it an interesting look.
