Washington Navel vs Cara Cara vs Trovita

bgtimber75April 20, 2011

So my addiction seems to be getting out of control this Spring and I'm looking to place another order. This time for my first Orange. I was planing on getting a Washington Navel and I've recently fell in love with Cara Cara's so I was going to get one of those. However with both ripening at the same time would they be redundant? Also Four Winds list the Washington and the Trovita as the best varieties for indoors and mine will be overwintered inside.

If you could only get 2 of the 3 which 2 would it be? And keep in mind that they will be inside in the Winter.

I'd get a Cara Cara and a Trovita. I love Cara Cara's, they're a little sweeter and less acidic (just added one in our salad tonight, in fact). Trovita has a more sweet/acid balance, so that would give you two different types of oranges. But, I grow mine in the ground, so that may be the deciding factor for you - what will grow the best in a container.
