Clematis turning black

My perfectly healthy, 5 year old Jack is turning black from the top down. This happened within 4 or 5 days. Could this be the dreaded wilt?

Are the vines black all the way down to the soil?..If so...just prune the vines to the soil..keep watering and should return...Jeanne

No, the bottom leaves are green with yellow between the veins. Three quarters on top black, one quarter on bottom green with yellow. Thanks for response.

Prune just above a leaf axil where you see green leaves..This is NOT WILT if it was the vines would be black all the way to the soil...Jeanne
