Now my beautiful stapelia grandiflora bloom is finished and has curled up. Should I cut it off plant or let it dry and wither?
I let them dry and fall off on their own.
Thank you Christopher. I do the same with huernias but this is my FIRST Stapelia.
Do you want seeds? If house bound, no insects to pollenate you may well cut the spent bloom off. If you don't want seeds, do the same. Producing seeds weakens the plant and if you want more blooms, cut off as soon as thay are done. Watch that you don't cut new blooms off as they are in the same area as the old stem.
I leave mine on waiting for seeds but so far I haven't been lucky.
Thanks Stush..... I got the stapelia at Hirts. It was one plant so I thought. But one bloom was red and hairy and then 2nd was more yellow and smoother??? So I think they had 2 in one pot but the price of $3.99 was grrrrreat. Their cash & carry prices are fantastic. Highest thing was the $5.99 for my tall Warm Hands Cacti.
Two for the price of one. The first is Stapelia Grandiflora (red) the second is Stapelia Gigantea (yellowish). If the red on was just a bit smaller it could be Stapelia hirsutis. Any way, you got a deal.
Thanks stush!! They also gave me a 2 branch fallen piece of heurnia zebrina that was blooming on the floor. That bloom has since died and another on the unrooted section is blooming!
