Passion Flower Fruit Question

transplanted2scin07(7b upstate SC)October 23, 2009

I have a Passion Flower vine with a fruit on it that is currently the size of a lime. It is dark green. What color is it when it is ripe? Will frost damage it? Should I pick it and bring it in to finish ripening? What part is edible?

Thanks for your help!

Years ago I had some natives flower and fruit. The fruit once it reached small lime size was very light and when opened was pithy..nothing edible. It stayed brownish green.

There are so many types of passion vines and only a few of them are worth eating. The tropical purple ones are the most popular for drinks (Parcha if you shop the hispanic food store) and there is a giant yellow one that has a lot of flavor. Some of them are just better at giving you a tropical aroma rather than being very tasty.

Most of them have a lot of gooey jelly around the seeds - not the texture that most people enjoy.
