Anyone kept Astrophytum asterias. I find them to be one of the most beautiful cactus around.

Beautiful plant you got there. I love the fuzzy flecks its got
I have one, but the bottom is a bit squished in. I dont know why... i checked the roots and everything, and they are nice.
I prefer its relative Astrophytum capricorne. I love the spines, and the large flowers on it.

Just got it in July and this is the first time it's going to bloom. I guess the colour will be yellow. I hope in bloom on a weekend else I have no chance to see it.

Nice cactus. One could take it to work and put it on your desk,... if you work at a desk.

Mine bloomed in September just for a couple of days. Big flowers indeed! This is astrophytum asteria cv. superkabuto.

Hi robinpla, does the flower close at night and re-open the next day?

May I know if the cactus is self-fertile or does it need another plant to pollinate?

You need male and female to pollinate astrophytums.

Wasn't around when the flower opened in the afternoon but managed to take a picture just now at about 8pm.

Beautiful! It might open up more day two and three. Now you need a few more astros to get pollination :)

Unfortunately I only have one of this. There are no nurseries selling this over here. I got this when I was on a vacation to Bangkok.

Those are beauties...and the only cactus I ever rotted!

Maybe I should try again soon.
