Need help identifying plant

manicorganicgalNovember 9, 2009

I had a plant pop up in my garden that I'm curious about. It looks like a minature version of a sweet potato vine but the leaves are very tiny. Now it has grown what looks like miniature Idaho potatoes that are very hard and I suppose some type of seed pod. They are dropping off all over my garden and I'm not sure if they are harmful or not. I'm removing all that I find. Can anyone help identify or should I include a picture?

Could be air potato, Dioscorea bulbifera, or something related to that.

Here is a link that might be useful: Some pictures

Thanks for the info esh ga! The website you gave me was very helpful! It led me to another site called WeedUS where I was able to identify it as a "Chinese Yam" from the pictures provided. Now I know it needs to be eradicated asap. When I see the reasons that some of these invasives are brought in it makes me wonder why we can't find a way to make them useful to us also. This plant was brought over originally for food and medicinal purposes which indicates to me that it isn't toxic, only invasive.
