the difference a few years makes

Just wanted to point out this incredible picture of a Taiwania, I'm pretty sure it's the one at Villa Taranto and hopefully it wasn't damaged in the freak tornado they had a couple years ago. That was the most beautiful garden I'd ever visited when I went there in 2010. (with Isola di Brissago a close second)

You can click for a big version but I'm not going to deep link because it's not considered kosher.

Anyhow, wanted to point out the first time I saw a Taiwania at the NCSU arboretum in the mid 1990s, which was only about 5' tall at the time. I thought, why would anyone plant this hideous, prickly little thing. It was like an extra spiny, misshapen Cryptomeria.

Anyone else have ugly duckling to beautiful swan conifer examples?

Very nice, mine is from CF and it still is growing as a branch. Maybe someday it will take off but for now it is still very floppy. It may be a while as it looks.
