While walking in the neighborhood I noticed a Clematis in a weedy flower bed. The owners did not know it was there.

I explained about fertilizer and that I had the right type and would they want me to apply it. They were pleased. I mixed up rose fertilizer about 5 weeks ago and this is the first time the plant has flowered. It looks a bit darker in person. I'm sure it's an older variety and common.

Thanks for your help.

Thank you for the replies.
The true color of the Clematis flower is darker than it appears in the picture.

I grow Comtesse de Bouchard which is paler than this Clematis. Because of the paler color, I've now paired it with a dark purple hybrid Clematis.

A friend thinks it may be Madame Edouard Andre. The flower shape is very similar.
