Fukushu Kumquat Dropping 'Infant' Fruit

plutomedia(6)July 20, 2012

Hello,

I'm a new "citrus farmer" growing a few trees in pots on my porch. My kumquat has been by far the most active of my trees, blossoming a few weeks ago and now with several infant fruits growing. However, I just noticed that several of the infant fruits/stems have just dropped off into the soil. Anybody have any ideas on what's going on?

Thanks!

perfectly normal. All citrus with self thin the crop based on what it can handle. I have a Fukushu and it always in flower or flushing leaves. So far the fruit has been just OK.

its a normal process for most citrus. they bloom profusely, too much fruit sets, there's usually 2-3 times it will thin itself out.

Hello neighbor and welcome!

Today it's going to be just perfect for our trees along with the next several days! 80's by day, low 60's by night.

I wouldn't be concerned as our friends here have said. Mine does the same thing, but always leaves a few behind to grow just wonderfully. The amount of fruit that stays will be determined by your tree size and maturity. It looks like you have a few healthy ones still hanging on.

Thanks Mike! I've read several of your posts on this forum--all very helpful. I'm sure I'll have many questions that require a special New England perspective.
