Help picking clematis

miclino(5)October 10, 2011

Hello, new to clematis and have never had one yet. I want to plant one on a trellis placed in a corner in the front by a bay window. The area is clay soil and the roots would be shaded except in the early morning. It would probably only get a little less than half day sun and rest of the time would be what I call bright shade. I don't want something that will overwhelm the area or look like a big tangled mess. It will be located close to a Japanese maple as well. Would prefer lighter color flowers either white, pink or light blue will do.

I'm assuming I should get a Group 3 plant? Long bloom period or rebloom would be nice. Would like some suggestions. Thanks!

You don't need to shade the roots, that's a myth passed about forever and ever. Go to my link to find a clem that will do well in your zone, with your lighting for the area you want to plant and color preferences. :)

Check out Comtessa de Bouchaud. Its pink and blooms a fairly long time. I have 16 Clematis' and this is one of my favorite. It was one of the first clematis I bought years ago and last year I bought 3 more of this one. Its also a prolific bloomer, at least for me it is.

Thanks. That looks like the color I want. I will give it a shot.
