shiitake plugs in alternative logs (non-oak)

Hello all,

I got some shiitake spore plugs and want to use them soon but i do not have any oak logs.. Does anyone have any other medias they use for the plugs?

from what i have read recently i can use softwoods or hardwoods.. hardwoods are pref but they state softwoods will populate fruits quicker but in smaller yields. I think ill try drilling random logs around my yard and see how they do... thanks for the feedback konrad!
