Venture an Id for this purple mushroom

hoe_hoe_hoe(6b)August 19, 2006

Very thick and inflexible. Even a little more purple than came across on these photos. Prominent ring around the edge quite dark. Attached Gills. No sign of a veil that I could detect. Thanks!

NOTE: I have NO intention of ingesting this mushroom regardless of ids/ tentative ids given, so no need for warning. Thanks!

I don't know what it is, but I do know that it's not violet cort, which if felt-like on top.

The purples are some of my favorites.

Was it growing on woody debris? I'm leaning towards Lepista nuda (wood blewit) which is quite a variable species. A pale pink spore print would confirm this ID. Incidentally the delicious variety I grow on my woodchip beds produces specimens just like the one in your photo.

I thought of blewit, too, but wondered about the gill attachment.
