Requirements for Trachelium

hvander(5B ON)May 16, 2006

A kind grower of annuals/bedding plants gave me several hundred well established Trachelium plugs. (Unfortunately, an attempt to use them as a focus piece in his planters failed.) Before I plant them out into the field, can anyone tell me if they require shade, part shade/sun, or sun and if they need support netting? Also, are there any harvesting tips I should know about? Thanks for any help you can give!

Too bad they didn't work in the planters. I've seen them in container plantings; and, I really like them as a filler. But, lucky you, Henry.

They should be planted in filtered light -- ideally. There is one bred for full sun and heat. I think it's Lake Michigan.

This plant requires cool nights -- around 60. This is one that likes to bolt and bloom on short, short unusable stems. For this reason, many specialty cutflower growers are growing them in hoophouses where light and temperatures can be better controlled.

No netting.

Cut into plain water, and transfer to Professional Holding Solution.
