What kind of flowers bloom in May, zone 6?

Eeya22(6)October 20, 2005

I am engaged and planning a wedding for mid to late May. I would like to plant a flower garden and cut my own flowers for my wedding to save money and add a personal touch. I recently moved to Nashville just a few months ago, and I'm not sure what flowers to plant that will definately be in bloom mid to late May. This area is zone 6. I want to plant a bulb garden this fall and am trying to decide on some flowers. I'm not set on any particular flower or color at this point, but something fragrant would be nice. Any suggestions?

Hyacinth, Daffodil, Tulip, Grape Hyacinth come to mind. Are you growing for your bouquet, table decorations or church? For a bouquet, a bunch of tulips tied with a ribbon is simple and elegant. Here is what I have in mind for an example. I'm sure any color would work. http://www.simplyblooms.com/gallery/union.htm

For the table maybe bulbs that are forced and placed in a decorative basket?

For the church I really am out of my element, but I think that the same bulbs you use could be forced in a larger basket (Tall tulips maybe) and use woodies for height.(yellow twig dogwood or curly willow come to mind)
Good luck to you.
