Too early still?

Zone 5a...days have been in 60's-70 and nights 35-40's.

You can tell I'm wanting to just plant my 2 dahlia tubers (Bahama Apricot and Thomas Edison) ASAP! All our roses have been pruned and lilies starting to come up. I am obviously not knowledgeable about dahlias (like you all are). But we have such a short growing season. Is it SAFE to go ahead and directly plant them into my gardens? I DIDN'T start them in pots...guess because I have so many other things going in them. Should I wait for a few weeks still? What damage would be done if I did so now? Any special instructions? :0) Phyl

Hey PhyL:

Next time do a search first. I just answered this question and the only reason I answer is that I am a "Tom Edison" fan.

You absolutely do not want any emerging foliage to hit those 30's temperatures. Stick em in pots if your impatient. But wait another week or two for outdoors.
