Dahlia Height

cotodahliagirlJune 17, 2009

I have approximately 25 dahlia's planted, I have noticed that 5 of them are not growing as rapidly as the others. While most are two feet tall, the other are only about 12 inches. I have not even pinched them yet. Two of these are in prime location in my yard for maximum sun.

We have not had good weather which is unusual here-we haven't had sun for two solid weeks and I did plant later than usual. It also has been cooler than normal.

I usually plant in March but couldn't plant until the end of April.

Any advice?

Patience...

Assuming that you don't have 25 of exactly the same variety, just remember that not all varieties are alike. Just like the flowers are different, foliage, bushiness, height...the rate of growth varies too.

If you're really concerned, try a jobe tomato spike or two next to each one.

Cheers,
Russ

Well said, sturgeonguy. They do love their fertilizer. I do mine every Sunday morning with Miracle Grow. Works well for me. ;)

I have fertilized twice with Alaska's more bloom but should I switch?
It is 0-10-10. I am always afraid of killing them with too much stuff or over watering. We haven't had enough warm weather to warrant a lot of watering.
thanks again,
April
