I was in Ft. Lauderdale (my home) this past weekend and saw this. I've never seen one before. It is Aristolochia elegans. Commonly called Calico Flower or Dutchman's Pipe. The bloom was 10"x8". It felt like fabric.
Don't know what it is,but it also looks like fabric, pretty and unusual,i like it!!!
Very unusual is right. Never saw anything like it.
I have seeds. Kat from Amlo Farms sent me a slew of them. I tried germinating them this spring, and failed. I'm going to be trying again next year. I assume it will be an annual here. She's in Austin, TX.
It has been a "few" years, but I remember a neighbor growing one.
That was in Pharr, TX, which is on the TX Mexico border.
Wow is that weird! Lol very pretty , ive never seen anything like it.
It is suppose to attract a certain type of butterfly.
