Dahlia foliage wilts

woburAugust 24, 2006

It is often over 90 here in the afternoon and the foliage of my large dahlia wilts. It is app. 4' tall and is growing in a half wine barrel. I usually give the foliage and surrounding deck a misting with the hose and it revives. Is there any reason why I shouldn't mist it? Am I inviting mildew?

Thanks.

Keep misting them in the heat of the afternoon. I do that with mine too. It's normal for the leaves to wilt in the heat. Powdery mildew is only a problem if you mist too late in the day and the water on the leaves doesn't evaporate and stays on the leaves.
