went over to the in-laws after lunch (dim sum). picked a grapefruit off their tree. hint of sweetness, hint of bitterness, but mostly tangy.
6' tall wood fence. i estimate the tree to be about 14' tall.
Looks like a Texas Ruby Red... famous from the Rio Grande Valley... If you like grapefruit, get yourself an Oro Blanco, aka Sweetie... a cross of grapefruit with pomelo...
best in the world; but of no importance to me, as I don't like grapefruit.
Good luck on your papaya; if it is not one of the new hybrids, it will NEVER be as good as what you can get in Walmart or Costco.
Wow, houston! I guess it true what they say that everything's bigger in Texas! That's a lovely grapefruit tree and the fruit is so pink! I have a papaya tree that is finally taking off. What variety are you papayas, my gosh they're so tall. Lovely!
these are my in-law's trees.
the tall papaya on the left is supposed to be a Hawaiian variety (smaller fruit), and the mid and right trees are supposed to be a Mexican variety(larger fruit).
I have a Solo papaya (Hawaiian and smaller fruit) that is getting ready to bloom. So, my first papayas should be ready in a few months. Pretty excited about that!
here's what i have atm.
one N33 navel.
a few Mexican variety papayas.
