Worms around Tubers in ground

mike_jw(London. UK)November 25, 2013

I dug up a 'Bishop of Llandaff' today in preparation for the winter. But I was amazed to see loads of earthworms, some really large, in the earth within the clump of tubers. I've seen this with shrubs and small trees, but not with Dahlias. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, when I dug up my Dahlias, there were many in the soil between those bulb parts. I guess they like the soil and mulch stuff (cut stems and bits) to feed on.

I tried to wash them off with a hose,

Not wanting them or nasty cutworm things in the boxes while storing the bulbs.
Bye, Lin
