root systems/space, and pool decking

CaroleandDavidMarch 24, 2013

We are remodeling out back yard. We have a narrow space (2 1/2 ft.) between our fence and a low brick retaining gardening wall that boarders our pool deck. We want to plant a smooth trunk palm or Italian cypress tree. Would there be a problem with a root system damaging the pool and or decking?

I wouldn't take a chance. 2 1/2 feet is not very much space for tree roots. It wouldn't even be enough room for shrubs. I don't know much about the roots of the trees you mentioned but it stands to reason that a tall tree would have a good root system or it would fall over.
