Best holly for privacy under canopy of live oak in south Louisian

steveb46March 3, 2014

Want to screen my garden from second story of neighbor. They have an 8' wall but we are like gold fish in a bowl. I tried little Gem magnolias. Under the canopy of the live oak they do not get enough sun to be full. I tried East Polatka tree holly. Same issue. Better than nothing but not thick enough. Bamboo would work but I know my neighbor would be unhappy and I don't want it to take over. Would like to keep depth 10' or less. How about Eagleston Holly? Between my house and wall is the southern part of our lot. One giant live oak on east edge of property and one on right. All suggestions welcome.

I don't know about hollies, but Aucuba Japonica 'Gold Dust' is an evergreen that thrives in shade. It grows 6 to 10 feet tall.
