Plant recomendations for Rabbits

lukasekJuly 20, 2006

Have a terrible problem with rabbits. Eating everything, don't want fence around everything. Tried Liquid Fence and Habenaro spray, partially effective but a pain inthe neck redoing it all the time. So, I have decided to plant what they don't like and adapt my design accordingly. Can't fight Mother Nature...

The things the rabbits seem to not bother in my yard:

Clethra
Hydrangea
Mock Orange
Rhododendron
Juniper
Yew
Spruce
Ginkgo
Sumac
Viburnum (V. trilobum)
Iris
Daylilly
Sedum
Hosta
Heuchera
Liatris

A few they have reduced to stumps:
Chokeberry (Aronia)
Roses
Willows
Magnolia (Stellata), though they haven't bothered the others.

Yes, a .22 with a silencer. lol

From the list above - I've had rabbits eat the new growth tips from hosta, gnawed my hydrangea to the ground as well as a Chicago Luster Viburnum.

I don't think you can fill a garden with plants that rabbits won't eat, because they'll eat just about anything to keep from starving.
