Preserving Fluorescent Glowing flowers (pics!)

TennysosJanuary 25, 2014

Hello all,
I am new to the forum and excited to join this community!

I have been experimenting with preserving blacklight glowing flowers. Unfortunately, the elimination of water has also eliminated the fluorescent pigment in my first attempts using silica gel+microwaving.
I was wondering if you all had any ideas how to preserve the pigment and shape of the flowers.
The flowers are made by allowing them to absorb water+hilighter fluid.

What I am considering:
-Silica gel drying for 5 days (no microwaving) - however based on the silica gel and microwaving results, I am doubtful that this will work.
-Combination of those just listed.

I am hoping to make a floral centerpiece to hang in my room under blacklight. Any help on how to best preserve this is much appreciated!

I would never use a water based dye on flowers that are already dried. This site sells dyes specially formulated for dried flowers, It's alcohol based and easy to apply using an artists brush. I use these dyes with my pressed flowers after trying many other ways to color and it's so much better, like night and day. Get the dyes in the web store and there's a page that gives simple instructions to use.
