Best Rose for Edible Garden?

Sarien(Z5 MI)January 7, 2005

Hi! I am new here and was wondering what everyone's favorite variety of rose with large hips was. I have an arbor over my front gate that is new and needs something to climb up it. Are there any good varieties with big hips that can be trained as a climber? Thanks!!!

Rugosa roses produce the largest, most plentiful hips, but they are not climbers. However, you could consider climbers with Rosa rugosa in their parentage, such as the Kordesii roses. -Here is Dortmund, which sets plentiful good-sized hips.

Here is a link that might be useful: Dortmund
