What's Your Favorite Edible Flower?

EricaBraun(9b)May 18, 2014

A few months ago I discovered GardenWeb and have been enthralled ever since. I've been trading tons of seeds on the Seed Exchange forum. Occasionally, I receive random flowers. Due to limited space, I'm only growing flowers that are either edible or medicinal. Every time I get a new flower, I look it up. Needless to say, I have been absolutely amazed with the number of edible flowers out there.

Now I'm curious, about what other people grow for edible flowers. What's your favorite?

I love the smell of citrus blossoms, but I haven't actually tried eating one. I think I'll have to give that a try. :)

Nastritium. Incorporate the leaves and blossoms in your salad. The blossoms have a peppery flavor. Make "poor man's capers" from the unopened blossoms.

I like squash blossom.. Have you tried it? It's delicious especially if you mix it in soup! :-)

I grow squash, but I try to leave it on the plant to help produce more fruit. I know that that is a popular one though. Chefs use it for stuffed squash blossoms. I should probably give it a try.
