help with foxglove?

newbiehavinfun(7a - Southern NJ)March 12, 2012

Hi all! Anyone grow foxglove? I'm having trouble figuring out if they are coming back this year. It's been a very warm winter and a few foxglove stayed semi-evergreen. The rest aren't pushing up foliage. Do you think the ones who aren't showing yet are finished? When do you all see foxglove foliage pushing up in your gardens? Thanks.

Foxgloves are classified as biennials, for me they form a rosette of leaves the first year, bloom the second year and then, sometimes if conditions are favorable I'll get another year or two out of them, hope this helps.

My foxgloves are also semi-green right now. I found that trimming off the worst of the leaves leaves a neater appearance, so that's what I do. And they come back just fine. And they reseed freely. I can't tell you if I have any new ones popping up, it's still a bit early here. But I'll keep my eyes open and let you know.
For now, I'd neaten up the ones you do have. And wait and see on the others.

Thanks, Annette and fixerupper! I appreciate it. I will have to start a garden journal this year; I keep saying that I'm going to. Now I'm trying to move some shrubs around and I don't know where the perennials are! It will be nice to know where things are and when they arrive. At least if I know which plants come up around the same time, I'll know if something bit the dust. Mental note: take more pictures!
