Eucalyptus to Edible Garden

pinky21(zone 9)June 3, 2011

We just removed a 10 yr old Eucalyptus from the sunniest spot in the yard. I've heard that these trees are allelopathic. Do I need to remove all the soil and replace it before planting a raised bed with fruit trees and veggies?

The actual levels of Alleopathy in Eucalyptus is actually a matter of some debate, but they pretty much all agree that, if the tree and it's leaves ARE Alleopathic, removing the tree and dropped leaves will prevent any problems. And if you're growing in a raised bed and not using Eucalyptus leaves in your mulch, then you shouldn't have a problem at all.
