If you can't find any trades, you can buy Spigelia Marylandica is Rock Island Wildflowers. They have them for $5 bareroot. They are listed under Limited Quantity Plants.

Even better, they have an internet special where you can get 10 for $36, plus $7 postage, so it pays to order online.

Ordered some of these myself. Didn't come up last year, but am hoping they will this year. Talked to the owner, and he was very nice.

General website is www.rockislandwildflowers.com. Specific address for spigelia marylandica is listed below -- but remember to take advantage of the internet special if you (and your friends) need 10 or more.

Here's additional contact info:

P.O. Box 57
Rock Island, TN. 38581-0057
Phone 931.686.2360

They have lots of other wonderful wildflowers and shade plants. All are bareroot.

I just ordered Indian Pinks and received them yesterday. They were delivered UPS, had a beautiful root system with lovely foliage starting to emerge. I highly recommend Mailordernatives.com in Lee, Florida. You won't go wrong on an order from Amy.

I watched all my plants last year like a hawk waiting for ripe seeds. There one day gone the next. I'm trying cuttings this year.

When the seeds ripen, the capsule pops open flinging the two seeds away from the plant. I've planted all the seeds I could retrieve last fall--will have to wait and see if any germinate. I wonder if this would survive in zone 4 since it's primarily a Southern plant.

Does anyone have seeds of Marilandica spigelia that came from the wild, or from multiple seedlings? The problem with mail order nursery material is that often, this plant is propagated by root-division; no genetic diversity; all clonal.

Thank you,
