Any way to tell age of rhubarb?

wittyraven(4)June 12, 2013

We recently bought some property in Kenai peninsula AK. Today I discovered a rhubarb plant partway in the woods behind the house. I know you arent supposed to harvest the 1st year and only a little bit the 2nd year. Is there any way to be able to tell how old a rhubarb plant is? I've never in my life grown them, and to be honest never ate them either.

Just went out to look again, pull up some dried old leaves to find 2 more separate but much smaller plants. If that helps with aging? I just want to know if I can harvest this year or not and how much I can harvest. It is too small right now but we had a VERY late spring, even for Alaska. But we are playing catch up now with a lot of warm weather.
