WANTED: Does anyone grow/exchange bananas, tropicals?

flora2(7)June 12, 2006

I am crazy about tropicals. I know, I know...wrong place for that, but...

I am trying to find red leaf bananas in this area (with no luck so far) or any bananas and/or tropicals. If anyone has the same desire and wants to explore a possible local trade, please drop me a note. Thanks a lot.

Yes, I know it is pain to store them for the winter :(

I have no idea what's "local" to you since the NW is a big place :) but I do have and trade a lot of tropicals, including bananas. I know there are others that I trade with, on other garden sites.

My trade list info here is hopelessly out of date, but I could point you to other trade lists I have (not sure if I'm allowed to link to them from here).

Have you tried musa basjoo bananas? They overwinter pretty well for me here in the Tri-Cities, but they don't have red leaves.

Tri-Cities? You must be as much as a fan as I am. It does get cold there in the winter, right?
Well, anyway, I would love to hear about other sites, people, etc. that are interested in trading, talking, commiserating, etc. Could you drop me a note? I am in the Seattle area. Thanks a lot

Tri cities is about an hour from me..I am near Hermiston Oregon..does the banana you mentioned grow well in colder winter climates? I am not sure what the winters are like in Tri Cities but here we get pretty cold.

I grow/exchange brugmansias, including sanguineas. Also have cannas (altho perhaps not truly a tropical, they add to the tropical look).

Red leaf bananas or cannas? Either way, where do you work? :)
Patrick, do you have any Australian cannas, maybe for trade? I have seen your postings and I know you do like tropicals. Maybe I can find something for you in my collection. Thanks

Do you know Sky Nursery in Shoreline? I was just there and saw a couple red leaf palms there two or three feet tall for sale.
