Blue Spruce Extreme Pruning
Picked up a 4 tall Blue Spruce from the local nursery yesterday to add to the up-and-coming backyard. Ive been reading message board, after message board today about these beautiful conifers. The location Im looking to place this item causes me to inquire: How extreme can I prune the BS. Im looking to place the spruce about 4 from the house & deck so that it will eventually "close up" the 5 gap between bottom of deck and ground. My thinking is that I could prune the spruce over time so that it never touches the house or deck. Some other questions I have are (1) will the root system pose a problem to the 20 x 30 concrete patio located approximately 6 from the planting site (2) will the root system pose a problem to the homes foundation over time (3) can I prune/trim the spruce down in height so that it never exceeds the gutter height (about 20 from ground). Basically I would be extremely manipulating the trees natural growth.
Does my idea sound reasonable OR am I out of my mind and should find an alternative solution.
