Today I bought a camera. I thought that I'd start a thread with lilies. Here is a picture of my Purple Reign. This one is so pretty
Fantastic brushmarks! That one's been on my wishlist for quite a while. It's time to find a vendor! PR is an earlier bloomer, is it? My lilies (except the martagons) are just forming buds. Beautiful photo.
No this lily is not a early bloomer. I bought it with small buds on. It was kind of an ugly looking plant when I bought it. But I liked the name. I figured it would fit into my theme of white, yellow, pink and purple. I pais $4 for it and am kicking my butt because I didn't buy more.
Very pretty! Definitely going on the wish list ;)
It's looking like the lilies will be blooming a bit earlier this year than normal. The buds are really getting big.....maybe only a couple more weeks before they start.
Don't kick yourself too hard, Shelley. The bulbs will propagate, and you'll have lots in no time. That's a great price you paid...there were certainly several bulbs in the pot from the looks of it!
Shelley, those are absolutely stunning, for sure on my wish list too!
Glad to hear you got yourself a new camera!
Ohhhh - that would look great with "Centrefold"! "Purple Reign" is going on the "must have" list!
Laurie, i was looking at my lilies too and thinking that they'll bloom way earlier this year. I wish they'd hold off a bit - i want them to be looking their best in about a month from now.
Marcia, what's happening in a month? Garden tour maybe?
The Neepawa lily festival is always on the third week of July, which is typically the height of lily season here, but I'm thinking only the later blooming lilies will be out by then, but you never know, if we have a week of cooler weather, the buds could sit there not growing either.
Our strawberry season is peaking about now, which is about 2-3 weeks early. Usually my strawberry patch is producing at it's best by the second week in July. On Saturday I picked 4 pails, so I think that'll be my largest picking and it'll start winding down now. For once they actually are "June" bearing strawberries!
Yes, garden tour. The lilies are pretty much the stars of my yard, so i'm hoping that they'll be in bloom. Otherwise, i guess i'll just take a bunch of pictures and stick them to the lily stalks with clothespins! LOL
Wow! That lily is stunning! I now have it on my wish list too.
You could start a whole new gardening trend doing that Marcia!lol
Okay, has anyone found a place that is offering 'Purple reign' lily for sale this fall?
That one is gorgeous and a must have!
I just phoned the Lily Nook and they have it in their show garden but it has not increased enough to sell to others, yet. Some day....
Floral and Hardy do not have it either.
Brenda, I haven't been able to find any place that has this one for sale. Oh well, will just have to watch for it, in the future I guess.
Watch now that "they" all know were all looking for Purple Reign, theyÂre going to hike the price sky high! Be careful what you say around these forum, those vendors are watching us ;)
Shelley, how much do you want for one bulb. LOL
Shelley, I think you could make some serious money auctioning them on the forum!!LOL
I tracked down a Canadian source for Purple Reign. Anyone wanting to order just email me privately and I will let you know who, where and the cost.
Sorry girls, but I'm not looking to sell. I wish that I had more. I am so glad that I have the picture, because the heat has done the flowers in. Oh well, more varirties will be blooming before I know it.
I've got a couple of lilies that have started blooming today. It's unbelievable that they're starting in June!
LA Hybrid 'Donaue'
They're starting to come...........
Asiatic 'Monte Negro'
Another lily started blooming today.
This is such a pretty little one.
Here's the first lily blooming in my garden. It is Honeyqueen, I think.
Wow, that Honeyqueen has like a zillion flowers on it!
'Tropical Dream' opened last night, so I thought I'd try a night pic of it.
Oooo. I've looked at Honey Queen in catalogues...very nice! Is it fragrant?
I went out and sniffed it, but couldn't detect any fragrance. I guess it's just named Honeyqueen for the color. But it's very vigorous. I've divided it several times.
Thanks for sniffing!! LOL What we gardeners won't do for each other!
The reason I asked about scent is that Parkland Perennials advertises Honeyqueen as one of the few fragrant Asiatics. Even without the perfume, I think I have to add it to my garden; I like the colour and presenation of the flowers. If it's vigorous, that's even better!
Here is a link that might be useful: Parkland catalogue: Honeyqueen
Great lilies gals!! I have a couple blooming and several others looking like any day now.
The latest love of my life, "Black Out" is fragrant but you have to get close to smell it. This photo and the photo I bought it from on the Lily Nook website do not do it justice - it's such a beautiful dark red and not really purpley at all.
Here's a new one from last fall, Aphrodite.
And a sea of Lollipops! This is such a vigorous grower.
A few more lilies are starting to bloom here.
Landini- wouldn't this one look nice beside Purple Reign?
Another picture of Lollypop
Hey, I posted more pics earlier this evening and the post is gone! I even saw it after I posted... weird.
Here they are again... more Black Out, there are so many blooms for three brand new bulbs!
Another new one, this is a cute little guy called "Red Strap". Those black dots are raised bumps! :0
Here's Regatta. It's still one of my all time favourites!
Laurie I love Regatta! The alternating smudge colours are adorable.
More in my garden:
"Cheops" (gawd it's bright!)
My long-term favourite, "Tinos"
And some unknown whites and oranges
Laurie, where did you get your Regatta? I just love the colouring.
I have a bad habit of getting a bunch of plants and then never keeping track of them. I got a bunch of lilies from a lily breeder a few years ago and planted them thinking that I will know what they are when they grow. Well I have since lost the tags that were with them when they came so I have no idea what their names are. I am just posting them in a group with no names so you can enjoy them.
Cheers Al ( who needs to get better organized)
Al those are all beautiful! I think the first one is called "Latvia".
And number 5 is 'Orange Electric' (or 'Electric Orange' according to Lily Nook). I really like the second-last one, Al.
Gil, I bought 'Tinos' last year, after seeing it in someone's garden. I can't wait until mine blooms!
I am just loving everyone elses lilies. There are so many more that I want now I don't know if my gardening budget could handle it. Here are a few of mine. Unfortunately I can't find any of the tags for them. Hope you like them as much as I do.
We were away for a few days and came back to lilies blooming everywhere. Here's just a few pics I took almost in the dark.
Pink Embarassment, hiding her face.
One of my favorites, China lily. It's so delicate. The picture doesn't show it, but the petals have a dark outline.
This as Aurora, planted in memory of my mom.
This is supposed to be Asiatic 'Landini', NOT! Guess I'll be writing another letter to Veseys!
Oh no Sharon. That is definately not Landini.
I got mine from Veseys too. They are pretty in pictures, but not very showy in the garden. They are too dark to stand out amoung all the green.
Pink Pagoda. New this year and already a favorite.
Ohhh I just love them all!!
Shelley, your Tinos has much bigger red marks than mine - sometimes mine blooms with no red at all. Wonder why! That Pink Pagoda is a knockout!
North53, Aurora has such a beautiful pure look to it, reminds me of bridal satin.
Here's a freebie from the Lily Nook, "Allegretto"... I have daylilies now too but I think I will start a separate thread.
I think I really want 'Latvia'!
Here's a couple more from me.
My sister thought this one was called 'Windsong'.
I've lost the label for this one.
Lilies! My favourite things!
Here's those fasciated ones again:
Different lilies in the front bed:
Don't know the name of this pretty yellow one:
THis one is either 'Prince Cru' or 'Grand Cru':
Pale pink lilies - these have always bloomed nicely:
I emailed Veseys about the Landini and they are going to credit my account. Geez, that makes me mad, I was really looking foward to have Landini in my garden!
Anyway, here are a few that are just opening up.
OA 'Fancy Crown'
LA 'Modern Style'
Asiatic Double Kiss ÂAphroditeÂ
Sharon, I love your Fancy Crown!(I always knew you were the "queen" of gardening!lol)
Marcia, that fasciated lily is unbelievable! I've never seen anything like that in person. You should definitely charge admission for seeing that one! ;^)
Shelley, I got Regatta a few years back from the Lily Nook in Neepawa.
Fantastic lilies everyone! I'll have to go out and snap a few pics of mine that have opened up in the past week, as we just got back from camping yesterday.
Alright, I just came in from snapping a few pictures to cool off. Talk about a heat wave.......it can end any time now!
Maple Cream (thanks Brenda!)
Canadian Sunrise (thanks again Brenda!)
Something Else (once more, thanks Brenda!)
I forgot one. Here's LA hybrid Oklahoma.
This is 'Bright Star', an Aurelian from the Lily Nook. The colour's off - it's supposed to be dark orange in the middle. Not sure if it's got first bloom jitters, or if it has something to do with the fact that its stem is broken and being held together with a splint. Darn dog - I'm lucky it's alive at all. >:( Anyway, it smells great!
I have a couple more lilies to share.
The first one is just an ordinary yellow, but I was surprised to see this flower with all the extra petals! All the other blooms have only 5 or 6.
Here is what the rest look like. You can see the special one in the background.
This lily is growing by the driveway and is getting a lot of favorable comments. It really is this dark color.
Some more lilies.
Dolly Madison- a freebie from the lilynook
Some unknown ones. Maybe someone could help me out.
This one was supposed to be Shirley. A later bloomer with a bright yellow throat and spots. I guess I'll be contacting the Lilynook if they all do this.
Very beautiful Lilies everyone!
A few more blooming today....
Asiatic 'Freedom Glow'
Asiatic 'Rose Fire'
These are some of my species lilies.
Martagon, started from seed a couple years ago.
Beautiful lilies Sierra! Was it difficult to start the martagons from seed? Or is there a specialty dance for them too?lol Also, where can you get the seed?
Yes, gorgeous Lilies Sierra, I think I'll be ordering Lilium rubrum this fall since obviously its hardy if it grows in your garden.
A few more today....
Asiatic 'Grand Cru'
Asiatic 'Paul Bunyan', this one was hard getting a good photo, you pretty well have to get right on the ground to take a photo of his face.
Asiatic 'Lollypop', boy have hybrid Lilies got much much better since Lollypop came out, but overall I still have a soft spot in my heart to keep it. ;)
Asiatic 'Chianti' Lily
I think I will grow some Baby's Breath to go along with this one next year.
More Asiatic 'Rose Fire'
Here are some more lilies from my garden! I don't know the names of them as I got them from other gardeners, trades garage sales and could not get a name for any of them. If anyone knows the name of them please let me know.
Hope you liked them!!
Laurie, I was sent those seeds from a friend a few years ago, she collected them from her own lilies. She sent the dance at the time.....and I followed her steps, but I don't remember what they were now. LOL! Can someone say "KEEP BETTER RECORDS"? LOL.
"since obviously its hardy if it grows in your garden"
Sharon, I got the bulbs for both the L rubrum and L rubrum alba from costco....ummm in Feb or March this year.....I potted them up.....and planted in the garden in June. So I don't know if they will survive the winter or not. But for the price I paid, I thought it was worth a try. Keeping my fingers crossed, will let you know next year. Oh and I am sure if they do survive they will bloom much later like mid to end of Aug here. Alba's first bloom was a week later than rubrums first bloom. All were potted up at the same time.
Beautiful lilies eveyone. I've begun a list for fall planting.
An unknown yellow.
Sharon, your Chianti looks like my Vermeer. Not my Chianti that was posted earlier. I wonder which one is right. The rest of my lilies are in the post mislabled plants and such. I am a bit upset about my lilies today.
Shelley, I don't know? I did some Googling and I bet you then I have Vermeer??? I thought I was buying Chianti a couple of years ago from Botanus, thats what I ordered and I still have my invoice.... hmmm?
Here's a pic of my Vermeer from last year. Sorry it's not the best of photos. Sharon, your lily doesn't seem to have as wide of a white band as Shelley's and my Vermeer. I guess the slight variation could have something to do with soil and location though. Or maybe the age of the individual flower. Maybe Vermeer gets whiter with age? What do you think?
For some reason, it never grew any flower buds this year at all. It's got to have at least 5 stalks and none produced. This also happened to my Royal Paradise this year too. Anyone know why this happens?
waaaaaaaaa...sniff sniff. My 'landini' opened today and it looks just like Sharons.....sniff....its red and its only about 4 inches tall.
I have to say, I really am not impressed with the small, rotten and mislabeled lilies I got this spring. Some of the ones I planted haven't even come up at all.
The 'Fancy Crown' lily that I picked up on Thursday from the Lily Nook is blooming, but it has extra petals. Another bud is half open and it has extra petals too. I wonder if this will continue with this plant?
Here it is,
It's an unusual form, but I really like it. Kind of hope it stays this way ;^)
I really like Fancy Crown Laurie. I can see why you bought it.
Sphinx. Most definately, not Ceres like it was tagged.
Centerfold. This has the same colouring as Purple Reign.
OT Mona Lisa
My favourite combination - 'Stones' (red), 'Medail' (yellow) and 'Cancun' (corally coloured, and apparently not actually 'Cancun'):
Mabel Violet opened today:
And so did one final Yellow Pixie:
I just love all your lilies everyone!
LA 'Royal Sunset'
My lily wish list is getting unmanageably long!!! I love the ones with eyes and splashes. I HAVE to get 'Kentucky'--what a beauty!!
Here are a couple of mine. More to come when Photobucket starts cooperating.
'Grand Cru', I believe.
'Latvia'; the top flower and the others are from two different vendors. I think I like the softer one the best, although the others are quite dramatic. You can just make out one 'Suncrest' flower peaking behind the softer 'Latvia'.
I think I'll go to bed, now. ;-)
Just had to share a couple more from today. Sharon, that
LA 'Kentucky' is gorgeous!
I'm so excited to see this LA hybrid 'Suncrest' finally blooming this year. It only has two buds, though.
I don't have the name for this yellow, but it's a very good performer.
Awesome lilies everyone, I love looking at them! I have added 'Embarassment' to my list. And I love 'Grand Cru' too but it might be a little too similar to my Cheops to bother ordering...
Here's my 'Modern Style', it is scented as someone mentioned. It's very short though, only about 18". Can't remember how tall it was supposed to be.
This is my unknown Yellow that I bought at a nursery when I was 16 and it has been with me ever since. It was my first perennial :0) LOL
Oh, I meant to ask you ages ago, Brenda, do you know the name of the pink & white lily that Laurie thanked you for on the 16th? I really like it!!
I also forgot to say how much I like Sierra's L. rubrum (sp?), wow what great colours!
Gillian, was it the last picture of a pink and white lily with spots? If that's the one you're asking about, the name is 'Something Else'. It was hybridized by the people who started the Lily Nook. I love it too. I can hardly wait until it's a huge clump!
A few more today:
I think this one is 'Impact'--a gift from a generous gardener. I love purple and orange together!!
'Amarone'--the fragrance of this one, in the afternoon, is heavenly. I have several bulbs planted together (bought at Costco last year--large bulbs for a great price!), so the perfume is VERY noticeable when you're close to the flower bed. A nicer fragrance, IMO, than Orientals.
An overachieving 'Lollipop'--10 petals, or sepals, or tepals, or whatever they're called!!
Laurie, you'll have to tell us if 'Fancy Crown' survives the winter. I love the colours--actually, there are very few lilies I DON'T like...
Here are a couple more of my favourites:
Great lilies everyone. Many of these had now made it onto my 'Must Have' list. Here are a few from my yard.
Syreeta....Does that last one have a name? I am going to search for that one! I love the colour!
Gil, your yellow lily looks like citronella, I think.
OA 'Fancy Crown' Lily, they just keep blooming and blooming!
I have Coreopsis tinctoria 'Dwarf Red' as a filler along with these lilies, really picks up the red in the petals.
'Tabasco', a powerful orange that will knock your socks off when seen in person.
Asiatic 'Black Velvet', I thought these would be more black.
LA 'Presto' Lily
Oooooh... aaaaah! Those Crowns! Wow!
Laurie, Something Else, LOL! LOL! LOL!!! I thought you just didn't know what it was. LOL some more...
Well whaddya know... I was out looking at my unknown yellow this evening, and it has bulblets on the stems! For the life of me I have never noticed them in all these years. So I guess that means it's a yellow variant of the tiger lily (??) Or does L. auratum 'Citronella' have bulblets too?? Guess what I'm harvesting this fall...
Sierra, I can't tell you what it is. It is one of those oops from Botanus. I'd have to check my records for the name but I do remember it was suppose to be pink and white. I like it better than what I was suppose to get.
Sharon, I see that your Fancy Crown has an extra little petal too. Do any more of the flowers have this? On mine the first two had 3 of those extra swirly petals, and then on the third flower it only had one extra.
Gillian, sorry I should've put apostrophes around Something Else. But it is a good way to keep you on your toes!LOL
Syreeta, I really love the colour of that last lily! I bet it glows in the moonlight.
Gillian, sorry I didn't respond earlier. "Something Else" is a Barry Strohman lily. I have had it for 5 years now and get a lot of comments on it. It is one of my favorite lilies. Barry has quite a few lilies of his own. He quite often names them after favorite people...like his mom, his wife, etc.
Brenda (who is still trying to catch up in the yard and will post pictures in the lily and daylily thread sometime, hopefully soon)
Gil, I was browsing through Valley K's lily catalogue this evening. They sell 'Tinos', and this is what they say in the description:
"Starting with pale green in the throat, shading to vivid deep red, then orange-yellow and cream...We found in extreme heat there was no red present, but what a stunning lily under normal growing conditions!..."
You can't control the weather, but I wonder if the lilies would have more red on them if grown in semi-shade? I moved 'Granny' to semi-shade, since her colour faded very quickly in sunshine, and she looks so much better. It could be worth a try.
Wow Doris, that is so interesting! I wondered if it was a cultural fault. But I don't know if I could grow it in more shade, I already have it in part shade and actually wondered if that was the problem. Maybe if I bury the bulb a little deeper? Hmmm.
Orienpet 'Boogie Woogie'
I love the scent on this one!
"Or does L. auratum 'Citronella' have bulblets too"
Yes Gil Cintronella does have bulblets too. Basically its a yellow tiger lily.
Syreeta, Do I win the prize of a baby bulb (when they multiply), if I can name all your other lilies. tee hee
Going to visit the Botanus catalogue again. LOL!
Sierra, sure I'll give you some when they multiply. Right now I have 5 bulbs.
Laurie, love your 'Boogie Woogie', mine should be opening soon too.
Sharon, I see that your Fancy Crown has an extra little petal too. Do any more of the flowers have this? On mine the first two had 3 of those extra swirly petals, and then on the third flower it only had one extra. Laurie, they seem to be random, all I know is that this lily just keeps ticking and ticking, as you can see in this photo, there is more blooms yet to come. I think I'll be ordering 'First Crown' this fall and see how that one performs.
OA 'Fancy Crown'
Asiatic ÂCappuccino Tango, kind of looks like the Purple Reign, eh Shelley?
LA 'Royal Cinnabar'
I just noticed too that the Starburst Lily that I posted last evening is not Starburst according to my label and invoice, it's HoneyBee according to their catalogue. Starburst is supposed to be red with black markings! Veseys has screwed up agian, here I go to write another letter folks. These mislabels are starting to get pathetic.
Looks like Purple Reign to me Sharon. LOL. At least you got your Dot Com. I'm crossing my fingers on that one .
More Centrefold - i love it!
A pink oriental whose name is lost in the mists of time:
Orienpet - 'Northern Carillon', i think:
Dot Com - she's pretty!
I'm not sure what this little one is or where it came from. It grew in a spot where i don't think i would have planted it - perhaps it's a migrated bulblet of something else that was in the same bed. The flowers are small, only about three inches across. It's cute, though.
Sharon, I love the colour of 'Royal Cinnabar'. And I most definitely have to get Dot Com next year!
Here's LA 'Aladdin's Sun'. It's a very pretty yellow--pale with a hint of chartreuse. I'm going to have to get it away from the gold heliopsis growing in the background!
I'm wondering if my 'Amarone' is really 'Fangio'. I found a description and photo of 'Fangio' that really matches my lily--and it even mentions the fragrance. Who would have thought that bulbs bought at Costco could have been mislabelled? ;-)
Here's Casablanca looking just splendid and smelling wonderfully :o)
I love white lilies!
Casablanca is gorgeous Laurie!
A good ol' gal called 'Shirley', never get tired of her.
'Shirley' is certainly lovely!
I was terribly excited this morning when I saw that orienpet 'Altari' had finally opened up. It was love at first sight!LOL It's got huge 7" blooms that smell divine.
OMG Laurie that is awesome!! It looks as big as my head! I love pink & white on lilies - 'Shirley' is beautiful too. My lily list is growing and growing.
'Altari' is now on my wish list! Love it!
Another mislabel, this was supposed to be Lady Alice from Botnus, anyone know what it could be. It looks like Orienpet Easter Morn?
Here are some white Orientals that are blooming this week. I think they could be "Olivia":
Ooo, I felt a little 'Dizzy' when I saw this beauty!lol
Beautiful Orientals Marcia & Laurie, mine shouldn't be too long to open.
Orienpet 'Boogie Woogie'
Asiatic 'Pamela Jean
I still find it amazing as to how many gorgeous different kinds of lilies there are out there. I just love everyone's pics!
Here's my last lily to bloom. This is 'Red Dutch' orienpet, that I picked up at the Lily Nook at last month's tour. Isn't it a beauty?
All the asiatics are done, just the orientals and orienpets are still blooming. Won't be long now before lily season is over :(
Boooo! My Red Dutch didn't come up :0( Yours is beautiful Laurie. I hope it turns up when I dig up the bed to move...
I'm really loving everyone's Orientals. Just beautiful, all of them!!
Oh, my - I'm in awe of all the beautiful lilies you folks are growing.
Realized I have two projects lined up for when win**r arrives - 1) figure out what I need to plant to have continuous blooming lilies (yahoo, that means shopping :-) and 2) do a sketch of what is growing where in each of the beds so that I'm not planting them on top of each other.
Yikes, that means I better get organized soon and take lots of photos.....
Casablanca and Lollypop are blooming profusely in my garden - just realized what a wonderful scent Lollypop has.
Laurie, my Red Dutch bloomed today (no pics yet), but it's tiny! I wonder why. Pretty, though!
Margaret, i have one bed pretty much devoted to bulbs. It was going to be all lilies but i wanted bloom from spring on, so there are crocuses and daffodils in it too. There's a big bloom gap, though, so i think i'll put some alliums in there this year. I usually put glads in there to carry on the bloom time a little longer but i never got around to planting any this year.
Uhhhhhhhh Marcia.....I planted enough glads for both of us. LOL. Lets just say...."I GOT GLADS" errrr EVERYWHERE! Them along with my 'kelvin floodlight' dinner plate dahlia...seem to be stopping traffic going by. LOL!
Do tubers and rhizomes count as bulbs...do you have a dahlia, and iris in there....they will help extend the blooming period. I'm letting my one kind of alliums self-seed in the perennial bed....I planted 3 bulbs...but want more now.....so hopefully this will work. Ohhhh and since this is the lily thread...some species lilies bloom late.
Margaret, are you sure you've got Lollipop lilies blooming now? Mine have been done blooming for 3 weeks now, and they weren't scented. They're usually the first ones to bloom for me.
Here's a pic of my Lollipops.
Are yours the same?
I thought they were Lollipop; however, given my admitted propensity for less than accurate recording of plant names, anything is possible.
And now that I look at the photo, no way is that Lollipop.....???
Also blooming this week....
Margaret, they look definitely like some type of oriental lily. Personally, I think yours are much prettier than the asiatic Lollipop anyway!
Is your second lily a Golden Stargazer maybe? Sure is lovely!
Sierra, i haven't had much luck with dahlias this year. Two bloomed in late June or early July, but that was it. And those two haven't kept on blooming. Iris is a good idea. I'm sure one or two of them could find their way into that bed. My alliums haven't seeded for me. I collected seed from them and tried WSing them, but no luck. I'll just have to get more!
Margaret, i thought your lily looked more like 'Starfighter'. And if that's a golden stargazer, i can't wait for mine to bloom!
Marcia - looks like it could be 'Starfighter'. Going to dig through all my records and see if I can find out.
Laurie - I do like them. They are in the garden that is right along the street, so the neighbours are enjoying them too..lol!
I planted 'Golden Stargazer' a couple of years ago, but thought I had lost it. However, this lily is quite a soft colour - more buttery and the flowers face downward. Thought Golden Stargazer had upward flowers...
Another of my first Orientals, so i don't know the name of it either:
My little Red Dutch:
American Journey - only one bloom and it's facing the wrong way! LOL I had to hold back another stalk of lilies to get this picture:
Dang, why didn't I order 'Red Dutch' this year! It's gorgeous!
It turns out that have 2 tones of Oriental 'Dizzy', perhaps one is mislabeled? hmmm
Orienpet 'American Dream'
Oriental 'Black Beauty'
Trumpet ÂAfrican QueenÂ
Some late bloomers....
Ahhhh, what a lovely stroll down memory lane this was.
I'm new to lilies. Contrary to the little info I've found so far, today when I opened one of my lily seed pods i found pea sized black balls instead of seed "flakes". Can anyone explain?
The "flakes" come from the bulbs that are in the ground. They're like little bulblets that will eventually produce a plant. The seeds will too, but i'm not sure if they'll come true. The "flakes" would, though.
Come over to the Discussions page - lots of great people and good advice there!
