WOW!

Amazing ancient specimens captured in some of the most jaw-dropping gorgeous scenery anywhere. These photos are works of art, suitable for framing. Thanks for sharing.

What a collection of fantastic images!

I particularly like the Pinus albicaulis, don't see those too often.

Shockingly beautiful. WOW from me too. Most of these photos are destined for backgrounds of desktops, framed photos or places of higher honor. Just, wow.

Very nice pictures!
I spent a week there before digital cameras. It made a nice base for seeing Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks. It
sure is nicer there than the low desert in the summer. Seeing those pictures make me think I should have explored the region more thoroughly.

Walking around in those surroundings must surely give one a strange feeling; as I thought sometime ago when staring at Nate's pictures : not quite heaven yet,but not that far to go. Thanks for taking us where most of us may never get a chance to go.T.

Superb!

A lot of dead spruces in some of the pics, any info on the cause?

Beetles. But I'm not sufficiently educated as to what is causing the upsurge. Supposedly it is a native species of beetle - some of the bristlecones were suffering too, but it was mostly the Picea englemanii that were suffering. The Forest Service STaff said the pines were not suffering, but that is not what I saw. Other species on the ridge were Pinus albicaulis, Abies lasiocarpa, Juniperus communis, Picea englemanii, and Bristlecones. A sheepherder I talked to told me that when he first arrived in the mountain in 1988 the scene with the spruce death was the same, so apparently its been going on for a while, a few decades at least.

Excellent photos.

Did U go to Capitol Reef? I've always wanted to visit the orchards there.

Very nice pics --- but NOT of pinus albicaulis. You will not find any of these in all of Utah, let alone in the south. You saw limber pine, not whitebark.
