mountain time

sluiceSeptember 18, 2011

Sitting out on the back porch this morning with a cup of coffee.

Sequoiadendron giganteum 'Pendulum'

It seemed like a good day for the mountains, so we headed out.

Picea pungens

Fall colors starting to show in places. This narrow tree looked like a Picea engelmannii.

The lighter trees on this ridge are Pinus flexilis.

Otherwise, Picea engelmannii, Pinus contorta, Abies lasiocarpa, and Pinus aristata.

Yes, I did climb that tree.

Seedlings (pine, spruce, fir) in a harsh climate.

Picea engelmannii

A nice blue Picea engelmannii.

Blue!

Something red, near the base of a Pinus aristata.

Populous tremuloides, it's getting to be that time.

Incredible photos. I'd be real hard pressed not to sit there a few hours in that last one.

Those twisted Picea engelmanni trees are so cool! And I love the Pinus aristata photos, too. Thanks for posting these!

Absolutely wonderful images, thank you for sharing them with us! :) Makes me really bummed about the pine beetles out here in the Black Hills. Looking real pitiful lately. But your outstanding photos certainly are a pick me up.

Very nice!

I'd not be able to go there without collecting a couple of sackfuls of cones ;-)
