Monster in the making: Pinus wallichiana 'Zebrina'

firefightergardener(7/8)September 23, 2011

I wasn't going to do another of these time-lapse posts but this one really caught my attention as I finished up organizing some photos... At first glance I thought this specimen somehow pushed twice. I see now that it just grew a LOT. Amazing for it's first year and unestablished out of a one-gallon pot.

This cultivar is well-liked for it's multi-hued, soft long fluffy needles.

The biggest accessible example in this area may one at JM Cellars near Woodinville. There is a decades-old conifer collection on the grounds, although, unfortunately many of them have been limbed up so as to look perched or floating.
