Grubs infesting my potted fig

thenance007March 24, 2010

I just went to repot the small brown turkey fig I purchased last year. When I slipped it out of its old pot, there was a huge nest of big, fat grubs (40-50)fell out from the center of the root mass. The entire area had been hollowed out and was filled with them. There is still root structure around the edge and upper area near the trunk, and the top has new buds, but very few white feeder roots--looks like they were feasting on them. The pot had alternated between sitting on the ground near the house and sitting on my concrete porch all winter. Just to warn others of this possibility!

Feed them to the mockingbirds, they love them.

I put them in a big saucer and set them out for them, but they weren't around--bet they're gone by morning, though!
